Millfield House holds a special place in the history of Millfield; being where the school began in 1935 when it was founded by 'Boss' Meyer. The son of a clergyman, he was a talented cricketer and may well have been picked to play for England. In 1926 he had accepted employment at both Harrow and Eton before choosing instead to play cricket in India. He returned nearly ten years later with seven students and started teaching in what is now our house study. The house retains many of the original features but now provides accommodation for up to 28 boys in dorm rooms sleeping one to five.

The boys have access to a well-equipped common room with a widescreen TV, a luxurious pool and snooker table, table football and table tennis. Further, we have Boss’s study which is a great place for the boys to relax and chat to the duty staff or matron and the library is a quiet place to get some work done. The boys have access to the pitch and putt golf course right outside the house and that makes a great location for house barbeques in the summer months. Millfield House really is in the heart of the campus and the boys are encouraged to make use of the fantastic facilities on their doorstep!

Alex Kemp is the new houseparent for Millfield House from September 2016.  Alex was raised in Pembrokeshire and completed his degree and teacher training in Cardiff before moving on to spend two years teaching at LVS Ascot, where he taught science and held a variety of responsibilities within boarding. As a young man Alex played representative cricket for Wales, he remains a keen supporter of Glamorgan Cricket and Welsh Rugby. Alex’s partner Paige is originally from Devon, she completed a degree in Law at Plymouth University and the Legal Practice Course at Bristol. Paige now works for a local law firm and enjoys running and horse riding in her free time.

Alex and Paige were Assistant Houseparents at St Anne’s for three years; Alex also spent two previous years at Joan’s Kitchen as a Non-resident Assistant Houseparent. He teaches Chemistry and has been Millfield’s Science Coordinator for the past two years; he is also a rugby coach and 1st XI cricket coach.
